Weekend Trip to Moscow

Moscow, Idaho, that is.

In the early years of our courtship Billy and I disagreed on Idaho and it's beauty (or lack of). We'd drive through the long barren stretch of land on our way to Provo, me groaning about "how boring" the flat horizon was, Billy sighing nostalgically over "his roots". Compared to Oregon, Idaho looked brown, dead, empty. But Billy was born there, his parent's raised there, and his ancestors settled there. I'd either have to reconsider this boy I found remarkably cute and fascinating, or chose to get to know this place he swore bore the very Salt of the Earth. I chose the later.

To help me navigate this transition, Billy introduced me to Moscow a few years ago. Up in the northern regions of Idaho, this idyllic town is surrounded by bubbling amber hills, clusters of trees, and big blue skies. It is home to Billy's paternal grandparents, and the University of Idaho, where Billy's grandpa made his career as a professor of architectural landscape. This last weekend the Snyder grandparents, Aunt Kristin, and my family took a trip up there for Uncle John and Aunt Melissa's new baby, Charlotte's, baby blessing. The blessing was beautiful, and seeing our family members up there was so fun for us and the kids. Here are a few pictures, in a crazy hodgepodge style of order, to commemorate:

Moscow's very own carousel. Not as cool as Salem's but it will do.

Liam was very fond of cousin Rachel's bicycle, and he is hoping Santa's Elves took note.

Cousin Rachel

Isla and her Grandpa

This expression makes me want to ride a bike.

It's not fun to share the bike with cousins.

It's not fun to share Grandma with cousins either.

Goofing around in the hotel room.

One of the bajillion car treats Grandma Connie had prepared.

Isla likes to keep up with the big kids.

Quinn, a family name and Isla's middle name. Great-Grandpa made this sign years ago.

It is great to be a Snyder :)

Looks like a fun trip. I'm glad you were able to go. Rachel is a beautiful little girl! By the way, Isla's new camera smile is what we would call Dottie's "crunch" face, because it looks like she's crunching something between her teeth. Elliot has also started to make this face recently.

Holy cow, Isla looks just like you did as a kid in that pic where Connie is holding her. By the way I had a dream last night we were kids again and you were SO mean and snide to me and I tried to argue and be mean back but I couldn't because you were older and smarter and quicker than me. Hahaha, it was like being 10 all over again.
