Oregon Heat Wave

I can't think of much to write. It is stifling hot in this house and I am as lethargic as a fat hog in the mud. I am falling behind all of my chores and growing list of things to do because all I can manage to do is eat frozen things and stay near water. So please be forgiving as I try my best to drum up an update because it will probably be pretty gosh dang boring.

It's been too hot to do anything this past week. This situation really eats at my general emotional outlook on life because what can I say, I like to do stuff and I don't like sweaty armpits. Once the temperature in our house stubbornly remained in the 80's for two days straight (while it was at or near 100 outside) I escaped mid-week to the beach with the kids and Aunt Shannon. It was in the 70's with clear skies and no wind-- a true phenomenon for the Oregon coast. I think I can only remember two other times I have seen the beach so perfect. Shannon and I had fun shopping at the outlets and laying around on the sand. Liam had fun playing in the sand but not shopping at the outlets. An incident occurred, one that really deserves it's own post, in which a 6 foot tall advertisement outside of Aeropostale fell down, hit Liam, and pinned him to the ground. His poor face and head was bleeding all over the place and I really thought the poor kid was going to need stitches or a new front tooth. However, the end result was just a bad fat lip and a couple of bruises on his face. I am really peeved at Aeropostale and we might sue. Probably not, but I am at least sending them a nasty letter.

Before and after the beach trip Liam and I (with Isla in tow) explored the various wading pools in our area. Liam is observant and timid at first and then slightly adventurous after five minutes. He roams around the pool watching all the kids playing. He is not one to just jump in and play with strangers. Not playing with strangers is a good thing I suppose but I feel bad I don't have anyone for him to play with. I feel like a good mother would supply her kids with play partners. The unfortunate thing is I am as shy as he is. He might have to play by himself until Isla grows another foot and learns how to interact. Liam did make a friend at one pool and that was nice.

Here are pictures for you to check out if you'd like:

I completely get your point about the whole playmate thing. A baby looks good on Jessica. Shannon was over here today. We had good weather at the coast too. I'm starting to see even more of you in Isla. I love that swimsuit on Liam, especially with the Nordic skin :)

I would send a strong worded letter to them too!!!! Make sure you do it! And I am jealous of your luck with the good weather at the beach! That never happens on the Oregon coast and when it does and you are there you feel like you won the lottery! What a fun trip! Liam is getting so big! Your family is so very cute...and that baby of yours is getting fat!

See my pink cheeks in that picture? Yeah, the backs of my legs are worse... oww. Shoulda used Liam's baby stuff. Oh, well. He got hurt much more than I did! :( It's still so scary to think about...

I'm so sorry to hear about Liam. How scary for you as a mom. We sure don't like to see our little hurt in any way. As you have the Nordic skin, poor Shannon's got the Irish skin and needs sunscreen, a hat, a suit like Liam's...

Little Isla is getting so chubby. What a beauty she is. Glad you girls had fun on the Oregon coast. I hate to admit it, but when Ken and I were there for Shannon and Ross's Open House, the two days we stayed at the beach house the weather was PERFECT! Shh, don't tell anyone.

Hugs to all.

Looks so fun!

Poor Liam. Attacked by an Aeropostale sign. I would respond similarly - complain that I would sue, and then admit I will just write a strongly-worded letter.
