A Goodbye Letter

Dear '95 Geo Prism,

Goodbye dear friend, you have served your sentence well. You came into my hands after a car of ill repute burst into flames on I-15 south and not once did you leave me stranded begging a trucker with a fire extinguisher "not to be a hero". You carried my unexpectant heart to Mexico not once, but twice. The first time you took me as a single woman, but brought me back as a BYU coed with a crush to mark a lifetime. A year later you drove me (with a gutted catalytic converter) there in love but unattached, and safely navigated me back to Provo with a ring on my finger. Your gray cloth seats did not burn my thighs in the warm months of summer, nor did your strong engine reveal the years of neglect and disrepair. With our true unconditional bond as owner and servant, you excepted your fate faithfully, even when your ubiquitous frame left you sans personality and nickname. You safely charted the Utah-Oregon route countlessy and effortlessly, you graciously offered enviable gas mileage. When my brother broke your inside driver door handle with his Guatemalan brute strength, you presented an alternative route to opening the door--the gentle squeeze and tilt method that helped us for years. But over the years of intimacy we have shared, our friend in common, Billy, has decided your plain exterior and ever-increasing odor did not fit his life plan. Its not you, its him. Don't worry, your life with your new owner will be much better. Maybe she will change your oil and name you some sweet, omnipresent name like Chris or Joe. Maybe you will be outfitted with a sound system to be proud of and maybe you won't smell like rotting baby bottles. I hope the best for you. As for us, Billy got a deal he couldn't refuse on the car of his dreams: a Range Rover. I'm sorry, don't hate us please.

Sincerely,

Rebecca

Sweet new ride! Can I borrow it to go snowboarding? I foresee some radical Snyder-Wilhelm/Clark family camping trips in the future... and we won't even have to use the "do I have to pull over" threat, we can just strap 'em all to the top from the get go :).

Fun new car!! Loved your letter! We have a truck that is a big part of our life...her name is Jolene and we haven't told her yet that she is going to be replaced soon! She has been such a dear truck to us.

It's me posting again. I was just checking your blog for the 4th time this evening and the pic of your new car brought back memories of Bessy the golden Honda. She was a real beauty... didn't a Doctor crash into you and total it? Well you know what they say, all good things must come to an end.
